Fading scars/fighting acne/oily skin « Thread Started on May 23, 2004, 10:06am »
Hello,
I just stumbled upon this forum, so I'm going to type my first post now. I apologize for its length.
I've been dealing with moderate facial acne since middle school (approx. 10 years ago). Although I don't break out that much, my main problem is with the dark spots left after the acne (I'm a bronze color so the marks stand out even more).
I've been using Proactiv solution for about 2 years now, and the only complaint I have is that if you miss a few days of using it or become lazy about using it, you could have a bad acne relapse. Otherwise, the solution leaves your skin really soft and fresh looking (I experienced no excess dryness, itching or flaking and I have very sensitive skin).
For dark marks, they now market a "Skin Lightening Lotion". I have found this to work over a period of time, however, the solution may further irritate your skin a bit while fading the scar. For example, I used the lotion every night for 2 weeks. Then one day, I grew restless and stopped using it. The very next day, I noticed that the scar had noticeably lightened. Since then (about 2 weeks after I stopped applying the lotion), the mark is all but gone but I'm using the original Solution around the area because the skin had become slightly irritated. All in all, the lotion will lighten the scar quicker than waiting for the scar to remove itself.
I've also found that for quickly getting rid of zits, Proactiv's "advanced blemish treatment" does not work. Instead, I use the "refining mask". I just dab on the creme and let it stay on my face over night. Usually, by the next morning, the zit has dried out, is no longer sore, and starts to heal.
My face is naturally very oily but the rest of my skin is quite dry. I've found that "Daily Oil Control" works best to slow the production of excess oil down. The formula is very very light, non irritating, and works well with the solution. You only have to put it on in the morning, and it controls oil all day. Their "Oil Blotter Sheets" are a different story. If you can afford all of this extra stuff, then you can buy these too, but basically they are just fiber paper. You'll get the same results blotting your face with that paper in the bathroom for covering the toilet. The same effect is achieved - oil is blotted. If you're skin is like mine, you'll go through 2 packs of them or 250 sheets (approx. $20) in just 2 weeks.
As for other products, I've recently placed an order for Elicina (which I should have by next week). I'm trying to remove some raised scars on my shoulder, so I will let you know how that works out.
